DSC_0422Run The Streets is a mentoring program which uses long distance running as a vehicle for change with at-risk and delinquent youth.

Youth between the ages of 13 and 18 years of age train with adult mentors to run a half-marathon after 13 weeks of training.

During the season, youth and mentors log approximately 175 miles together in training.

We train three days per week:

  • Tuesdays in collective running groups at 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursdays in collective running groups at 4:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday mornings with the entire group at 7:30 a.m.

We have been overwhelmed with the support we’ve received from the community and our mentors.

Our mentors not only give of their time, they also frequently dip into their own pockets to provide for the program. They believe in RTS and witness first-hand the differences the program is making in the lives of our youth.

Run the Streets is funded through private donations from the community as well as our annual Run the Streets Woolaroc 8K race held each October. Proceeds from the race (registrations and sponsorships) as well as the private donations, allow us to continue to provide RTS at no cost to our youth runners. Youth are provided everything they need, from shoes to race registration fees, to attain their goal of finishing a half marathon with RTS.
